Two million+ palestinians in Gaza are living under a tight and complete lockdown for 3 days so far and will be extending if needed due to coronavirus. This crisis comes at a time of not only blockading gaza, but also having only 2-4 hours of electricity every 24 hours as well as unending threats of more attacks and restrictions on gaza. Given all the incredible and mind-blowing circumstances, gazan youth, as usual, continued to inspire us. Here’s a great success story of some of the business and technology incubator’s trainees in the login project.
Graduated from the university of palestine in 2018 ,hashim naim is a young man from the gaza strip who used to be the embodiment of the saying “those who have never stumbled and fallen have never tried anything new.”
First, he graduated with a GPA which he considered unsatisfactory. Then after his fruitless attempts at learning designing, game coding, android development, and ios development, he decided to continue his journey in another direction choosing to work as a technical support operative in one of gaza’s telecommunication companies. He started programming mobile apps using flutter afterwards that was a milestone in hashim’s life considering the proficiency and mastery he exhibited in the field.
Two years after leaving those fields, his life had deviated from their paths to some degree. However, he kept searching for training opportunities until he found one at BTI. He joined BTI “login” training program, the program which funded by the world bank in affiliation with ngo development center (NDC). After a lot of technical training and coaching by great trainers, he was able to get his first job on fiverr with a payment of $35. This was during the training period which was only one month. Yet, however short that period was, the experience he gained was enough to make him a competing freelancer who got jobs using both social media websites and freelancing websites like upwork.
The small amount of money he earned from his first job was only a head start that paved the way for hashim to get a $5500 project on freelancer platform. Hashim earned a total amount of $6500 during only these two months of training!
The project was very different from the previous jobs hashim had done. It required a lot of effort especially while preparing for the project, organizing meetings and arranging a clear work plan, but all this effort was extremely useful while persuading the client that he will do the work efficiently and professionally.
He thanks BTI and its technical trainer for their great role throughout this period saying: “you are a great supporter. I highly appreciate the effort you exerted and all the encouragement you gave me with his words; they always helped in lifting my spirit up.”
