Palestinian journalist Mushira Tawfiq Al-Hajj Oweida, a graduate of the Department of Journalism and Media at the Faculty of Arts at Islamic University of Gaza, has won the Shireen Abu Akleh Award for Best Investigative Report 2025.
Her winning investigation, titled “How Did Some Civil Society Institutions Become Involved in the Medicines Trade in Gaza?”, was announced during the 18th National Integrity Awards ceremony, hosted by the Coalition for Integrity and Accountability (AMAN) to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day.
The event honoured the 2025 “Knights of Integrity”; individuals recognised for their contributions to promoting integrity and combating corruption in Palestinian society. The awards were presented across three main categories: an Integrity and Anti-Corruption Award for employees in the Palestinian public sector and local authorities; the Shireen Abu Akleh Award for journalists producing published investigative reports that expose corruption and strengthen public accountability; and an award for the best research on integrity and anti-corruption, recognising specialised academic studies in the field.
In 2025, AMAN received 11 applications for the public sector and local authorities award, nine submissions for the best research category, and 13 investigative reports submitted for the Shireen Abu Akleh Award. Winners were selected through a detailed assessment process carried out by specialised technical committees.
