Professor Dr. Adnan Ibrahim Al-Hindi, Professor of Medical Parasitology at the Faculty of Health Sciences at Islamic University of Gaza, has been awarded a Recognition of Excellence in Teaching (RET) Fellowship by the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom.
The RET initiative is a professional framework at the University of Glasgow designed to support and enhance teaching practice, while providing formal recognition to academics and staff who contribute to student learning. Aligned with the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF), the programme offers four fellowship levels based on experience and educational responsibilities.
The scheme promotes reflective practice, evidence-based teaching, and the continuous development of pedagogical skills. Applicants undergo a rigorous process that includes reflective statements, case studies, and demonstrated commitment to professional values and quality standards, supported by workshops, mentoring and peer review.
Professor Al-Hindi’s successful application reflects more than 28 years of academic experience in biological and health sciences education, including his teaching contributions to the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene programme at the University of Glasgow. His portfolio highlighted advanced teaching practices across theoretical and practical instruction, academic supervision, and curriculum development.
Among the innovative approaches presented were Collaborative Clinical Case Learning (CCCL) to strengthen research and clinical reasoning skills; Community-Based Learning (CBL) to foster social responsibility; peer-assisted and group-based learning models; and the integration of digital tools such as Google Groups and the e-Bug health education platform.
His submission also detailed initiatives to enhance students’ research competencies, address gaps in understanding of research methodology, and align curricula with community needs. The fellowship recognises his sustained commitment to quality enhancement, professional development, and the measurable impact of his teaching on student learning.
The award underscores a distinguished career marked by pedagogical innovation, critical self-reflection and continuous improvement in higher education practice.
