Palestinian journalist Shorouq Al-Aila has won the prestigious International Emmy Award in the News and Documentary category for her contribution to the film “In Real Life… A Hidden War”, which documents the humanitarian toll of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
Al-Aila, who holds a Master’s degree in Journalism from Islamic University of Gaza, said the documentary captures the lived reality of loss, famine, displacement and severe shortages of medicine; experiences that often extend beyond the reach of the camera.
Presented annually in New York by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the International Emmy Awards recognise excellence in television programming produced outside the United States.
Al-Aila dedicated the award to Palestinian journalists, noting that 228 were killed during the 2023 assault on Gaza. Last year, she was also honoured with the 2024 International Press Freedom Award, presented by the Committee to Protect Journalists to reporters working under exceptionally difficult conditions.
