Turkish and Colombian Presidents Honour IUG Journalism Graduates for Courage in Truth-Telling

His Excellency Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye, has honoured six journalists from around the world. Among the recipients were three graduates of Department of Journalism and Media in the Faculty of Arts at Islamic University of Gaza: media professionals Wael Al-Dahdouh, Adel Al-Za’noun, and Sami Barhoum. This recognition was granted in appreciation of their pioneering role and courage in reporting the truth from within their homeland.

In a related event, His Excellency Mr. Gustavo Petro, President of the Republic of Colombia, presented the “Simón Bolívar” National Journalism Award—the highest honour for journalists in Colombia—to media professional Aya Abu Takia, also a graduate of the University’s Department of Journalism and Media. The award was conferred during an unprecedented televised interview by the Colombian President via Al Jazeera Mubasher, connecting with the honoured journalists and activists from the heart of Gaza. The award to journalist Abu Takia recognises her courage in truth-telling of events during the 2023 Israeli military offensive on Gaza.
