Wael Al-Dahdouh, a graduate of the Department of Journalism and Media, Faculty of Arts, at Islamic University of Gaza (IUG), has been awarded the 2024 John Aubuchon International Press Freedom Award by the National Press Club of the United States.
The accolade is recognised as one of the most distinguished honours in journalism and was granted in recognition of Al-Dahdouh’s steadfast commitment to reporting under extraordinarily difficult circumstances. His work during the 2023–2024 hostilities in the Gaza Strip, during which he documented and broadcast events to audiences across the world, was highlighted for its courage and integrity.
Al-Dahdouh has long been known for his dedication to conveying the realities faced by Palestinians, maintaining professional standards of fairness, transparency and ethical reporting despite the pervasive challenges confronting media professionals in conflict zones.
Islamic University of Gaza extended its congratulations to Al-Dahdouh, noting that his achievement brings pride to the university community and serves as a testament to the resilience and excellence of its alumni.
