Recently, the Islamic University of Gaza, in collaboration with Action Against Armed Violence and the University of Birmingham, organized a workshop entitled “Building Capacity in Media Literacy and Storytelling”. This project was part of the Voice of People with Disabilities project, one of the international projects supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). It aimed to educate and empower students with disabilities in storytelling and media literacy.
The workshop was conducted by a team of organizers, which included Prof. Nazmi Al-Masri, a Professor of English at the Islamic University; Dr. Mahmoud Jalambo, a researcher at IUG; Sherihan Al-Masri, the Project Coordinator; and Dr. Nesma Al-Ghoula, the coordinator of the Disability and Integration Services Center in the Community Service and Continuing Education Deanship (CSCED).

Project Objectives and Phases
The project objective is to train two teams of students with disabilities in developing narrative methodologies and media literacy competencies. These two teams will then impart their newly acquired skills to four groups of Palestinian university students in Gaza.
The team achieved the desired objectives of the workshop. They created an inspiring atmosphere and a unique opportunity for the target group. Thus, the participants were able to learn and enhance their skills in media and storytelling. Consequently, they could become social media influencers and communicate their stories using captivating and engaging techniques.
Also, the activity had a positive impact on its attendees. They expressed their delight and appreciation for the valuable and one-of-a-kind experience. This successful event showcases the project’s dedication to improving skills and empowering individuals from across Gaza. It has become an inspiration for achieving goals and overcoming obstacles.
