First in Gaza, Second in Palestine

In 2023, Webometrics ranking showed that The Islamic University of Gaza has placed first in Gaza Strip and second in Palestine. Compared to the former ranking, it was 303 and 17 places higher at the international and regional levels, respectively.

Hopes and expectations

Despite the challenging situations the educational institutions in Gaza confront, IUG could reach these advanced positions and compete for more. Prof. Dr. Nasser Farhat, the President of the Islamic University, acknowledged the efforts of the university staff who contributed effectively to this accomplishment, highlighting the significant role of university ranking in improving the quality of education, scientific research, and community service.

“We look forward to continuous progress accompanied by more accomplishments,” said Prof. Dr. Abdul Raouf Al-Manama, the Dean of Quality and Development at the Islamic University. With progressively increased academic and research levels, the university can fulfill its mission of providing the best educational services that help build well-educated generations.

About Webometrics

“Webometrics Ranking of World Universities” was initiated by a group of researchers in Spain who employ qualitative and quantitative methods to measure the reach of scientific content. They aim to provide open-access knowledge generated by higher education institutions. The ranking is based on three main criteria: clarity (impact of site content), transparency/openness (number of citations), and excellence/scientific research (number of publications). The evaluation occurs twice a year, on January 1 and July 2.
