As part of the international exchange projects funded by Erasmus Plus, Prof. Khalil Al Namrouti, a professor of economics in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at IUG, has completed his international exchange period at the University of Granada in Spain.
During the visit, Prof. Al Namrouti connected with several esteemed academicians at the University of Granada. He also met Prof. Rafael Guervus, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, who welcomed him and showed interest in promoting cooperation between the Faculty of Economics at the University of Granada and the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at the Islamic University of Gaza.
Besides, Prof. Al Namrouti met with Prof. Manuel Morel, an expert in applied economics and international economics, to discuss strategies for encouraging the local community to consume national products. In this context, both professors underscored the importance of conducting research in international economics, focusing on export enhancement and deficit reduction.
In addition to that, Prof. Al Namrouti delivered a presentation articulating the vision of the Islamic University of Gaza and the Faculty of Economics. Throughout his discourse, he outlined the higher education programs and highlighted the technical tools employed within the educational system. The professor concluded by giving a glimpse of the state of the economies of Palestine and the Gaza Strip.
The visit encompassed many discussions with the objective of strengthening collaboration between the two universities. The representatives of IUG and the University of Granada demonstrated the benefits of international exchange for the students of the Department of Economics. Plus, they agreed on broadening their partnership relations to include working on joint projects, facilitating supervision in MA and Ph.D. programs, and publishing scientific research in classified journals.
The other part of the visit was a tour around the university campus, focusing especially on the Faculty of Economics and Business Departments, such as classrooms, the department library, laboratories, and buildings for master and Ph.D. students. Moreover, the visitor learned about the methods of teaching used at Granda University.
Concluding the event, Prof. Al Namrouti presented gifts on behalf of the Islamic University to the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Dr. Maria Jose, the Director of Public Relations and Publicity of the host college, and the international relations team at Granada University.
On the sidelines of the visit, Prof. Al Namrouti encountered Prof. Diago Checa, a professor of Political Science and an advocate for the Palestinian cause. The latter visited the Islamic University in May 2023 as part of a collaborative project with the University of Granada.
Prof. Diago Checa expressed great welcome for the suggested activities and added other potential initiatives. One of the subjects addressed was exchange programs for the students of the Department of Political Science and Media. Furthermore, the conversation shed light on various general topics in political science, including campaigns promoting local product consumption and boycotting the products of the occupation.
Prof. Al Namrouti expressed his gratitude for going through the experience of international exchange. He stressed that such experiences contribute to the development of Palestinian academics as they increase their scientific and practical knowledge.
Finally, Prof. Al Namrouti thanked all those who contributed to the success of the international exchange, conveying appreciation to the staff of the Islamic University and the University of Granada.
