The Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the Islamic University held a practical training day for male and female students of the course on the fundamentals of Sharia trials. The seminar was organized in partnership with the Sawasya 2 program with the support of the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
The training day aimed to support practical legal education for students of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the Islamic University of Gaza. The event aimed to clarify the practical procedures related to filing cases and litigation before Sharia courts and strengthen the rule of law in the state of Palestine.
Dr. Anwar Al-Shaer, head of the Legal Clinic, lawyer Mahmoud Wafi from the Culture and Free Thought Association, lawyer Iman Fatima from the Aisha Association for the Protection of Women and Children, and Hiba Mortajah from the United Nations Development Program attended the training seminar.
The training seminar focused on several scientific and practical topics revolving around the role of civil society institutions in developing the capacities of Sharia graduates. It also introduced the work of legal clinics in civil society institutions, their nature, and their role in serving the community. In addition, the seminar highlighted the role of Sharia graduates in legal education, serving vulnerable groups, and assisting them legally.
Mahmoud Wafi and Iman Fatima presented several points related to the above topics. The second section of the workshop focused on discussing how to employ the theoretical information learned during the study and translate it into practical work. It also aimed to develop students’ skills and shape their legal and Sharia personalities. The seminar also addressed the rights and duties of Sharia graduates and their future job prospects.
The training seminar was a significant step towards strengthening the legal education of Sharia graduates and enhancing their role in society. Such initiatives contribute to the development of legal systems and ensure access to justice for vulnerable groups in Palestine. The Islamic University of Gaza is committed to providing practical and comprehensive education for students of Sharia and law. The Legal Clinic plays a vital role in supporting this commitment and enhancing the students’ practical experiences.
