The Accounting Department of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at the Islamic University of Gaza successfully organized a workshop titled “Virtual Investment and Digital Currencies.” The workshop was graced by distinguished personalities such as Dr. Salem Helles, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences; Dr. Kamal Al-Masri, an esteemed expert in economics and information technology; Counselor Ahmed Al-Tarshawi from the Palestinian Police’s Financial Crimes Prosecution; and Tarek Al-Maqadma, an expert in economic security. A large number of academics and students also participated in the event.
This workshop is a testament to the commitment of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, particularly the Accounting Department, towards fulfilling its societal responsibilities. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the dangers associated with “investment in digital currencies” and combat the rising prevalence of fraud and scams in this field. It also provided insights into digital currencies, their trading risks, and their legal and religious status.
Dr. Helles highlighted the importance of being cautious while investing in digital currencies, given the potential risks such as price fluctuations, fraud, hacking of electronic wallets, and money laundering. The workshop was divided into three main segments, with Dr. Kamal Al-Masri discussing the topic of digital currencies and investment in the first segment. Counselor Ahmed Al-Tarshawi joined in the second segment to shed light on digital currencies, fraud, and scams under the purview of the law. Finally, Mr. Tarek Al-Muqadma discussed economic security and fraud prevention in the third segment.
Overall, the workshop was a great success, with attendees gaining valuable knowledge about the dangers of investing in digital currencies and ways to prevent fraud and scams. The event serves as a reminder of the importance of community engagement and the role of academic institutions in addressing societal issues.
