IUG’s Faculty of Sharia and Law organizes seminar on duties of Islamic knowledge student

The Faculty of Sharia and Law at the Islamic University of Gaza, in collaboration with Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin University in Indonesia, recently organized a seminar titled “The Duties of a Student of Islamic Knowledge.” Attendees included Dr. Yaser Fojo, Head of the Sharia Department; Professor Maher Al-Holi, Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence at the University; an academic delegation from Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin University via video conference; and a group of faculty members and students from the Faculty of Sharia and Law.

The primary goal of the seminar was to educate Sharia and Law students about their professional, ethical, and humanitarian duties, as well as the necessary morals and means to excel in their field. The aim was to develop them into exemplary ambassadors of their Islamic faith. The seminar covered several religious and legislative topics, including the duties of a student of Islamic knowledge, such as patience, control, mastery, and sincerity in their work. The importance of specializing in Sharia and Law was emphasized, as it plays a crucial role in producing scholars capable of examining and applying Islamic rulings. Additionally, the seminar covered the sciences that a student of Islamic knowledge should embody, such as the sciences of objectives, Sharia, jurisprudence, and Quran interpretation.

During the seminar, Dr. Fojo stated that the primary objective was to educate Sharia students about their professional, ethical, and humanitarian duties and to encourage them to work with knowledge and sincerity for their religion. Professor Al-Holi emphasized the breadth and flexibility of Islamic jurisprudence, which enable it to deal with all developments and find appropriate solutions through Islamic texts. He also addressed the skills of Islamic research and introduced the four schools of jurisprudence. Finally, he emphasized how to study contemporary issues through an Islamic jurisprudential lens, in line with meeting the needs of the Islamic community.
