Two IUG Graduates Selected for Match America List to Pursue Specialized Medicine in the US Amidst Global Competition

Doctors Muhannad Quwaider and Hiba Alghoul, graduates of the Faculty of Medicine at the Islamic University of Gaza, have been accepted into the American specialization program for medicine, THE MATCH, for the year 2023, after passing four medical equivalence exams to obtain an American medical license.

This achievement is considered the first of its kind, as they are the first two doctors from Gaza to be awarded this scholarship to study one of the medical specializations at American universities, outperforming their peers in the medical profession around the world.

Dr. Quwaider has been accepted to study general internal medicine at the University of Toledo in Ohio, with the aim of increasing his scientific and practical abilities and gaining sufficient experience from an advanced health system like that in the United States.

It should be noted that Dr. Quwaider worked as a lecturer at the Islamic University after graduating in 2018, explaining that the Islamic University was the supporter and contributor to his success, due to its prominent role in training and qualifying him to take international exams, such as the USMLE.

Dr. Alghoul, on the other hand, has been accepted to study family medicine at the Texas Health and Science University, which will allow her to specialize in dealing with several diseases across different age groups. It is worth noting that Dr. Alghoul has published 25 peer-reviewed articles in several scientific journals around the world.

Both doctors expressed their gratitude to the Islamic University for facilitating the procedures and electronic correspondence between the Faculty of Medicine in Gaza and the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) in the United States, which took approximately three years.

They called on the new generation of doctors and graduates to be patient and persistent and not surrender in the face of obstacles, especially in the field of specialization, as they sought to develop their skills and abilities to serve their communities.
