In a recent announcement, Ms. Reem Afif Mohanna, a chemistry teacher at Zahrat Al-Madain Secondary School for Girls, was awarded the Creative Teacher Award (second category) for the year 2023. Mohanna graduated from the Chemistry Department in the Faculty of Science at the Islamic University of Gaza and practiced teaching in several school settings. She has several educational, scientific, and environmental awareness initiatives aimed at the developing and improving the academic level of her students in chemistry.
Mohanna employs various methods, activities, and electronic competitions to create an interactive classroom atmosphere, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. She disseminates educational content, videos, exercises, and useful health, educational, and psychological guidance for her students. Mohanna is keen on participating in conferences and writing educational and experimental research in collaboration with the Islamic University.
Mohanna’s achievements include winning the Outstanding Teacher Award for the year 2020, being a finalist for the Achievement and Excellence Fund Award for 2018–2019. She executed several initiatives, including the Educational Doctor Center Initiative, which is a therapeutic educational clinic to treat basic skills in chemistry and develop all aspects of the personality of twelfth-grade female students of the Scientific Stream.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mohanna joined the Palestinian Microsoft team and the Office team, obtaining several courses, certificates, and badges, as well as the titles of Outstanding Creative Microsoft Teacher and Certified Microsoft Trainer. She also participated in the 2020 electronic conference for teachers, obtained the title of coordinator of the Arab Empowerment Digital Forum, and joined several scientific groups and platforms, including Experts for Education, the Electronic Forum for Palestinian Teachers, Creative Teachers for Education, and Rawaq Platform. Mohanna’s dedication and innovative teaching methods have made her a role model for educators in Gaza and beyond.
