The Islamic University of Gaza recently held a training program titled “Standards and practices of quality and school accreditation”. Hosted by the Department of Educational Foundations at the Faculty of Education in partnership with the Licensure and Accreditation Unit at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the program aimed to provide quality and school accreditation teams from private schools in the western Gaza Governorate with the necessary tools to meet accreditation standards.
During his opening speech, Professor Fayez Shaldan, head of the Department of Educational Foundations, praised the attendees for their commitment to education and highlighted the department’s commitment to applying its principles in practical settings. Dr. Mona Al-Sadiq, director of the licensure and accreditation unit at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, reviewed the various stages that the ministry went through to apply quality standards and school accreditation, concluding with the creation of the Quality and School Accreditation Guide. She emphasized the importance of quality standards and accreditation for schools to achieve their objectives and improve their educational processes.
Dr. Monawar Najem, an associate professor in the Department of Educational Foundations, said that improving education at all levels is important for the Palestinian community’s sustainable human development. She said that the Faculty of Education is committed to training teachers and principals from quality assurance and school accreditation teams and sharing experiences to solve problems and issues in education.
The program had three sessions that went over the basics of quality and school accreditation, as well as the practical side of self-evaluation, the formation of quality teams and their jobs, and external evaluation and its stages and tools for implementation.
Overall, the training program was seen as a success and an important step toward improving the quality of education in Gaza’s governorates.
