In a recent collaboration between the Islamic University of Gaza and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a new mobile application has been launched to promote International Humanitarian Law (IHL) education in Palestine and the Arab world.
The International Humanitarian Law Academy application, the first of its kind in Palestine, provides comprehensive training courses and educational programs for those interested in understanding the complexities of IHL. The app is part of the International Humanitarian Law Hackathon project, a joint effort by IUG’s Legal Clinic and Business and Technology Incubator.
At the launch event, attendees were thrilled with the app’s quality and ease of use, highlighting its importance in a conflict-ridden region such as Palestine. Dr. Tayseer Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, expressed his pride in the efforts of the young IUG students and applauded their work in bringing this innovative app to fruition. Dr. Anwar Al-Shaer, Director of the Legal Clinic, emphasized the app’s accuracy in design and its potential to meet the needs of Palestinian life, especially in the Gaza Strip.
The idea for the app came from a pool of entrepreneurial ideas presented by IUG students, and its development was made possible through collaboration between the university and ICRC. Engineer Rami Ghaboun, Coordinator of Legal Clinic Projects, acknowledged the importance of this application in disseminating the concepts of IHL and preparing the students for the challenges that lie ahead.
Mr. Yousef Alyazji, Director of the ICRC’s Media Department, emphasized the significance of the partnership with IUG and the app’s potential as a legal reference for addressing problems in cases of armed conflicts.
As the app continues to be developed and improved, the students who implemented the idea were honored for their hard work and dedication. With this new tool in their hands, they hope to promote greater awareness and understanding of the importance of IHL, especially in conflict zones such as Palestine.
