Ms. Hidaya Hassanein, a graduate of the Department of Da’wah and Media at the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion at the Islamic University of Gaza, has been named as one of the top 10 debaters in the 2023 Asian International Debating Championship held in Muscat, Oman. The championship was organized by the Qatar Debate Center in cooperation with the Oman Debate Center, as well as the Omani Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth.

Ms. Hassanein represented the Islamic University as part of a team that also included students Mohammed Hamad and Majdi Abed. The team achieved two victories on the first day of the Arabic-language Asian Debating Championship, defeating the A’sharqiyah University team from Oman and the Jamia Tur Rasheed University team from Pakistan. The team went on to achieve several other accomplishments in debates with teams from different countries throughout the duration of the tournament.

The championship featured 42 teams from Arab countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Yemen, and Oman. There were also participating teams from across Asia, including Malaysia, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, and Australia.

The primary objective of the championship was to promote a culture of dialogue and debate among youth, and to enhance educational activities on the local, regional, and international levels for the targeted group of students. The championship provided a platform for university students from different countries on the Asian continent to compete and debate on the most important hot issues on the global scene in various fields such as politics, economy, society, sports, culture, education, and others, in standard Arabic.

Ms. Hassanein’s achievement is a testament to the quality of education at the Islamic University of Gaza and the dedication of its students. Her success also serves as an inspiration for other students to follow in her footsteps and participate in similar international competitions to enhance their skills and knowledge.
