Two academics from the Faculty of Arts are awarded the “Jerusalem Medal for Culture and the Arts” in recognition of their pioneering efforts to enrich the Palestinian cultural scene and promote national identity

Prof. Dr. Nabil Khaled Abu Ali and Prof. Dr. Abdel-Khaleq Muhammad Al-Af, faculty members in the Arabic Language Department at the Islamic University of Gaza, were awarded the “Jerusalem Medal for Culture and Arts” by the Public Authority for Youth and Culture in recognition of their pioneering role in enriching the Palestinian cultural scene, promoting national identity, and serving national causes.

During a ceremony organized by the authority in collaboration with the Malaysian Cultural Center, in the presence of Mr. Essam Al Daalis, Head of Follow-up of Government Work; Mr. Ahmed Muheisen, Chairman of the Public Authority for Youth and Culture; Engineer Mahmoud Al-Madhoun, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Shadi Salem, Director of the Malaysian Cultural Center; Mr. Yousry Darwish, Chairman of the Honorees

The committee selected the recipients of the Jerusalem Medal for 2022 based on their tireless efforts to gather the creative pioneers who contributed to enriching the cultural scene in all of Palestine, as well as their pioneering efforts to strengthen the Palestinian people’s attachment to their land, sacred sites, and rights. The awardees were selected based on the areas in which they excelled, and the personalities were selected by committee consensus.

Prof. Dr. Abd al-Khaliq Al-Af earned the Jerusalem Medal for Culture and Arts in the literature area for the “poetry category,” while Prof. Dr. Nabil Abu Ali got the medal for the “criticism category” in the same area
