Eng. Khaled Issa, who works in the engineering office at the Islamic University, won third place in the international competition “Arab and Islamic Efforts to Serve Jerusalem,” which was held by the General Authority for Youth and Culture in Gaza and the Palestinian Malaysian Strategic Initiative Center (PALM). Many Palestinian and Arab researchers took part in the competition.
Engineer Issa won third place in theory and first place in practice for his research, which was written in English and titled “Exploring and documenting the architectural elements of the Dome of the Rock and the efforts of the Arab and Islamic nations to protect it (an exploratory and documentary study).” The first and second places were not awarded because no one else had passed the required score that qualified the competitor for the top two ranks.
Competition details
“The competition aims to shed light on the efforts of official and popular Arab and Islamic countries to serve the cause of Jerusalem through research and study and work to draw attention to the dangers threatening the city of Jerusalem, to enhance awareness of the importance of scientific research in the investigations related to the Palestinian cause, and to strengthen the Palestinian, Islamic, and Arab national sense of belonging and feelings towards the cause of Jerusalem.”
The competition rules stipulated that competing researchers must receive an evaluation of 85 or higher in order to be among the top three. Out of the 43 research papers written in Arabic that were judged and chosen by professors at a number of Palestinian universities, only 19 met the requirements to be considered for the awards.
It’s important to note that 53 papers were submitted in Arabic and English from Egypt, Algeria, Syria, Morocco, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Yemen, and Iraq. These papers came from the political, legal, scientific, cultural, historical, media, social, and popular fields, as well as from civil and civil society institutions.
