Islamic University of Gaza continues to advance in international rankings and obtains an advanced position in UI Green Metric 2022

The Islamic University of Gaza obtained an advanced position in the world university ranking (UI Green Metric 2022), as the university ranked first in Gaza and third among Palestinian universities. The “UI Green Metric” ranking is of global importance and one of the most important rankings that assess the sustainability of campuses (green universities). The UI Green Metric was made by the University of Indonesia for the World University Rankings. It was started in 2010 and is based on how green a university is.

The ranking collects information and basic indicators in six main categories, including infrastructure and green spaces, energy and climate change, transportation, water consumption, waste management, education, and scientific research. The UI Green Metric ranking is one of the most important global rankings that look at how interested universities are in issues related to social development and environmental sustainability, how committed they are to doing things that are good for the environment, and how well they share their culture and image on campus and in the community.

Prof. Dr. Nasser Farhat, IUG President, congratulated the staff and students at the Islamic University of Gaza for the advanced position that the university has achieved in this ranking and other rankings throughout its long history. He said that the university’s rise in international rankings is due to the work that everyone at the university has done to improve its reputation and place among international universities.

Prof. Dr. Abdelraoud Elmanama, dean of quality and development, said that the university’s achievements in higher education and its entry into international rankings show that the university is serious about achieving its vision to be a scientific beacon. This shows that all deanships, faculties, and departments of the university are working together to continue on the path of excellence and creativity.

Prof. Elmanama thanked the university’s ranking committee for their efforts in raising the university’s ranking among the international rankings and praised the efforts of researchers and academics who focused their attention on environmental aspects and sustainability issues.

Eng. Nisreen Salem, the head of the Executive Committee of Ranking, said that the Islamic University always takes part in this ranking. She said this because the Islamic University has made a lot of progress in the international rankings over the past two years, moving up 141 places from last year’s list.
