A delegation from the Master’s Program in Crisis and Disaster Management, Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies Deanship at the Islamic University visited the Ministry of Local Government to enhance cooperation in the field of risk reduction. The delegation was headed by Prof. Dr. Nizam Al-Ashqar, Deputy Dean of Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies, and Head of the Master’s Program in Crisis and Disaster Management, and they were received by Engineer Sameer Mutair, Undersecretary of the Ministry, Eng. Mona Skaik, Director of the Planning and Institutional Development Department, and Dr. Muhammad Al-Mogheer, Vice Chairman of the Higher Committee for Hazardous Facilities and Crafts, member of the Central Committee for Buildings and Urban Planning in the Civil Defense.
Engineer Mutair reviewed the 2023 vision of the Ministry of Local Government, which stems from planning and joint cooperation with national and governmental institutions and bodies.
Dr. Al-Mogheer presented the most important domains of the scientific day to be held in March 2023 on the occasion of the International Day of Civil Protection, and the most important points that the Ministry shares with the Civil Defense.
Prof. Dr. Al-Ashqar thanked the Ministry of Local Government for the initiatives it launches within the framework of promoting concepts related to risk reduction, especially the scientific activity to be held in relation to hazardous facilities and crafts.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Agha presented a vision on the nature of cooperation in the technical and technological field, practices for dealing with risks and their effects on local development plans, and the training maneuver in which the staff of local authorities, civil defense, and other partner agencies will participate in enhancing community readiness to deal with crises and disasters.
The two parties agreed to further strengthen cooperation within the framework of institutional building to reduce risks, develop emergency guides and developmental plans based on community readiness and optimal investment in disaster risk reduction.
