An academic delegation from the Oxford University visited the Faculty of Medicine at the Islamic University of Gaza and was received by: Prof. Nasser Farhat, IUG President; Prof. Dr. Ahmed Muhaisen, Vice President for Administrative Affairs; Dr. Fadel Naim, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; and Dr. Anwar Sheikh Khalil, Head of the Pediatrics Department; Dr. Ahmed Al-Ghazali, Deputy Dean for Clinical Affairs; Prof. Khamis Al-Essi, Professor of Neurological Rehabilitation and Evidence-Based Pain Medicine; and founder of the Evidence-Based Medicine Unit at the Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Suhaib Al-Hams, Head of Surgery Department; and Dr. Alaa Ismail, Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.
The delegation included nine academics in various specializations: surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and gastroenterology.
The continuous visits of Oxford University delegations to the Faculty of Medicine come in the context of supporting students, enhancing their abilities and skills, and serving the Palestinian health sector.
Dr. Naim thanked the visiting delegation for their efforts in training medical students in Palestinian universities in general and the Islamic University in particular, praising the academic and professional performance of Oxford University.
The visiting delegation commended the level of the students in the Faculty of Medicine and their enormous enthusiasm in the academic and professional aspects, as well as their remarkable interest in education, and their determination to learn from experts in the field. They pointed out that the abilities of medical students at the Islamic University match those of Oxford University.
The visiting delegation is scheduled to participate in a scientific evening entitled “Discussion of students’ research and improving the quality of medical education,” supervise practical training for students of the Faculty of Medicine in hospitals (Al-Shifa, European, Rantisi), train students on medical skills, and hold specialized lectures in surgery
