Muhammad Osama Al-Efrangi, M.D., a graduate of the first batch of the Faculty of Medicine at the Islamic University of Gaza, has performed the first pediatric laparoscopic surgery at Al-Shifa Medical Complex in the Gaza Strip. Doctor Al-Efrangi completed his graduate medical education in pediatric surgery in Qatar, and performed several laparoscopic surgeries outside Palestine, all of which were successful.
In an attempt to benefit from his expertise, the hospital asked him to meet the nine-year-old girl, Lamis, who was suffering from abdominal pain. The cause of the pain was not apparent in the medical picture. According to the doctors’ visual diagnosis, the girl was suffering from “appendix,” and she needed urgent medical intervention to remove it.
It is known that the laparoscopic surgery requires extreme accuracy, high professionalism, and complete calm as it is performed through three incisions, each of which does not exceed one or half centimeter, while the “incision” process requires more than five centimeters, which leaves a trace of the wound that may take a long time to heal.
In less than an hour of the operation, Al-Efrangi M.D. managed to end the severe pain that Lamis was suffering from by performing a laparoscopic surgery that left no traces on the body. This kind of surgeries is important in returning patients to their normal lives, eating food, and leaving the hospital as soon as they are assured of their health.
It should be noted that Al-Efrangi M.D. graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, first batch 2012, and completed his residency program at the Ministry of Health in Gaza. He was accepted into the Higher Specialization Scholarship in Qatar and joined the Pediatric Surgery Program from 2013 to 2022. During his stay in Qatar, Doctor Al-Efrangi received intensive training in pediatric surgery that lasted for six years, and culminated in his obtaining the Arab and European Board in Pediatric Surgery. Then he obtained a fellowship in pediatric urology for a period of three years.
