Funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ program, the Islamic University of Gaza won an international exchange project with the University of Siena in Italy, which is one of the oldest Italian universities, founded in 1240.
The activities of these projects revolve around the international exchange of university students to study for one semester at the University of Siena, in addition to one week for the university’s academic and administrative staff for teaching or training. Participation in international exchange opportunities contributes to developing participants’ abilities and skills, supporting their professional development, increasing their understanding of other cultures, improving their language skills, and equipping them with new and innovative teaching methods.
Ms. Walaa Safi, International Exchange Projects Coordinator, indicated that as part of a previous international exchange project with the University of Siena, the Islamic University hosted, for the first time in the Gaza Strip, the first international student who studied a semester in the Faculty of Medicine at the Islamic University.
The external relations, based on the success of the Italian student Ricardo’s experience at the Islamic University, will seek to attract several international students within the activities of this project.
It is worth noting that since the beginning of the program, IUG has participated in over 53 international exchange projects, which provided several opportunities for the exchange of university students and staff.
