IUG signed two memoranda of understanding, one with the Water and Environmental Quality Authority and one with the Sawaed Association for Relief and Development.

At the Islamic University of Gaza, two memoranda of understanding were signed between the university, the Water and Environmental Quality Authority and Sawaed Association for Relief and Development regarding the implementation of the project “Construction of a water well and a desalination plant at IUG’s Faculty of Medicine”, besides enhancing cooperation in joint research areas.

The memorandum of understanding concluded for the implementation of the project “Construction of a water well and a desalination plant at IUG’s Faculty of Medicine” was signed by Prof. Dr. Nasser Farhat, President of the Islamic University, on behalf of the Water and Environmental Quality Authority, Dr. Yousef Ibrahim, Head of Water Authority, and on behalf of the Sawaed Association, Mr. Gabr Eleiwa, Director of the Association.

Construction of a water well and desalination plant

With regard to the memorandum of understanding for the implementation of the project “Construction of a water well and a desalination plant at IUG’s Faculty of Medicine”, it will be implemented and financed by Sawaed Association for Relief and Development, and it is the Association’s responsibility to document the media for all phases of the project and to collect soil samples from the well bore during the drilling process for the final design of the well.

The Islamic University participates in setting the technical terms for drilling and constructing the well; coordinating with the Association for the event and opening ceremony of the project; and participating in the receiving and collection committee. The Water & Environmental Quality Authority undertakes the task of supervision and follow-up during the implementation of the project in accordance with the agreed terms and clarification of all the technical terms for drilling and constructing wells, in addition to conducting the test pumping of the water well, checking the water levels inside the well, determining the depth of the well pump, and participating in receiving the project outputs.

Collaboration in joint research areas

With regard to the memorandum of understanding related to strengthening cooperation in the field of scientific and academic consultations and developing scientific research in a way that supports the national strategy for water and the environment, the memorandum was signed on behalf of the Islamic University by Prof. Dr. Nasser Farhat, President of the University, and on behalf of the Water and Environmental Quality Authority, by Dr. Youssef Ibrahim, Head of the Water Authority.

The two parties agreed to establish an effective partnership to push and encourage cooperation between them in the joint research fields by: deepening the role of the Islamic University in the field of technical advice related to water and environmental sectors; finding innovative and effective solutions in these sectors of interest to the Water Authority; exchanging research experiences between the two parties; and conducting research in areas of common interest, through prior arrangements and in accordance with policies and work mechanisms followed in each institution. This is in addition to the cooperation in the field of joint academic and advisory scientific research between the research centers of the university and the Water & Environmental Quality Authority to achieve the aspirations and ambitions of both parties.

The terms of the agreement also lead to joint cooperation between the two parties in exchanging information and harnessing the available material capabilities in order to achieve joint scientific research for researchers; joint cooperation between the two parties in holding specialized training courses in the fields of water and environment; and joint cooperation in reviving local, regional, and international events related to water and environment; and creating opportunities for university graduates from specializations related to water and environment, with the aim of encouraging and providing the local community with specialized cadres.
