A workshop at the Islamic University discusses ways to develop and strengthen the scientific research system and its outputs in Palestine.

The Islamic University of Gaza hosted the workshop entitled “Developing and Strengthening the Scientific Research System in Palestine”, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and held under the sponsorship of the Prime Minister, Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, with the participation of: His Excellency Dr. Mahmoud Abu Mowais, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and presidents of universities and deans of postgraduate studies and scientific research in Palestinian universities. The workshop was held at the Millennium Hotel in Ramallah and via video conference in the Islamic University of Gaza.

Prof. Nasser Farhat, President of the University; Prof. Yousef El-Jaish, Dean of Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies; Dr. Bassam Tayeh, Deputy Dean of Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies; and university presidents and deans of scientific research in the universities of the Gaza Strip participated in the national workshop.

The workshop aimed at discussing ways to develop and strengthen the scientific research system and its outputs in Palestine. The workshop was held over four scientific sessions that discussed several significant themes and topics about the following:

The Ministry’s directions to develop the scientific research system; the reality of scientific research in Palestine; leadership, innovation, and patents and their relationship to scientific research; partnerships with international institutions and their role in supporting scientific research at the level of programs and projects; enhancing and activating Palestine’s status in international programs; the role of national networks for scientific research and databases; the special projects that link research repositories and their role in promoting scientific research; in addition to the classification of universities and their role in promoting scientific research; the role of scientific research in achieving sustainable development goals; students’ graduation projects and the need to link them to research priorities; and local scientific journals and their role in supporting scientific research.
