Prof. Dr. Khamis Elessi, Professor of Neurorehabilitation and Evidence-Based Pain Medicine and Founder of the Evidence-Based Medicine Unit in the Faculty of Medicine at Islamic University of Gaza, has recently been selected as an Advanced Fellow of the Global Health Academy at the University of Edinburgh, UK.
The selection was made based on the initiative of Prof. Elessi to disseminate a new service in the Gaza Strip that is providing palliative care and pain medicine for patients suffering from chronic diseases with severe pain, such as cancer patients, kidney failure patients, and chronic arthritis patients.
This service has been disseminated since 2010, resulting in conducting more than 50 workshops and lectures; organizing an international conference in the presence of more than 500 male and female physician in 2019 under the title: “The International Conference on Palliative Care and Pain Medicine”, introducing a new diploma to train physicians on this branch of medicine specialty; and incorporating this new branch into the medical curricula of physicians, physiotherapists, and nurses.
Prof. Elessi has made several scientific, research, and professional contributions in his area of specialization, in addition to receiving several awards and achievements at the international and global levels.
