The Communicable Diseases Surveillance Center (CDSC) in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Islamic University, in cooperation with El-Wafa Hospital, organized a lecture on infection prevention and control in hospitals. The lecture was attended by: Prof. Dr. Abdelraouf Elmanama; Director of CDSC; Dr. Hassan Khalaf; Medical Director of El-Wafa Hospital; Dr. Fouad Najm; Director of El-Wafa Charity Society, Dr. Saeed Al-Ghurra; Medical Adviser to the Hospital Board of Directors, and the hospital’s medical and health staff.
This activity comes within the efforts made by the Faculty of Health Sciences to maintain the effectiveness of antibiotics, reduce their random use, and encourage their rational use.
Prof. Elmanama discussed the infection sources in hospitals and the diseases caused by them, as well as the uniqueness of the microbes that cause these diseases, which have high virulence and a high ability to resist antibiotics.
He also explained the benefits of applying control systems and ways of building teams. Furthermore, he navigated the concepts of risk assessment, performance control, and active and passive surveillance.
