Islamic University of Gaza participated in the inauguration ceremony of the “Capacity Building to Integrate Graduates into the Labor Market-We Start” project, which was launched by the Ministry of Labor with government funding, under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and implemented by the Business and Technology Incubator at the Islamic University and Vision Plus Company.
The launching ceremony of the project was attended by: Prof. Dr. Nasser Farhat, President of the Islamic University; Mr. Ihab Al-Ghussein, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor; Eng. Suhail Modoukh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology; Mr. Mohammad Itbail, President of the National Council for Remote Work; and Dr. Alaeldin Al-Jamasi, Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education at the university; a group of members of the university’s administrative and academic staff, and a group of representatives of civil society institutions and participants in the project.
Prof. Farhat said: “The university is proud of such projects implemented by Business and Technology Incubator,” and considered the project a new addition to the partnership with the government sector, which has the effect of providing new and promising opportunities for more than 220 male and female graduates.
Prof. Dr. Farhat pointed out that the Islamic University contributes to serving a large segment of the Palestinian community, whether by initiating projects or by adopting the pioneering ideas of students and graduates, which contribute to building and developing the capabilities of the local community and causing comprehensive and sustainable community development.
Eng. Modoukh noted that the energy and competencies possessed by young people in the Gaza Strip are significant, and that there are no opportunities that correspond to the large and continuous numbers of male and female graduates. He pointed to concerted efforts between the various ministries and effective institutions to work on implementing programs and projects that support them through this project.
Mr. Itbail explained that the Ministry of Labor is striving greatly to reduce high unemployment rates, support sustainable and self-employment, and open new labor markets for graduates through freelancing, which is one of the most important means to achieve self-income for individuals. He indicated that We Start is one of the projects implemented within the remote work strategy and is considered a true partnership between government parties and the private sector.
Dr. Al-Jamasi spoke about the role of the Islamic University and the Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education in creating job opportunities for graduates and achieving their independence. He valued the role of the government sector in implementing programs and projects specializing in freelancing to serve a larger segment of graduates, as well as projects funded by external and international bodies and institutions.
The ceremony included a presentation by Ms. Nour Al-Hayya about the “we start” project, while Mr. Majd Abdel Aziz, Mr. Mahdi Abdel-Gawad, and Ms. Nour Mazyad told their success stories.
