A number of Journalism and Media Department graduates won first places in qualitative media competitions

A number of graduates from Journalism and Media Department, Faculty of Arts at Islamic University of Gaza (IUG), have recently won first places in qualitative media competitions for 2022, held at international and local levels.

The graduate journalist Mr. Yahya Al-Yaqoubi, who works in Felesteen newspaper, has advanced to the finals of AIPS Sports Media Award, through presenting two stories about persons with disabilities who practice sports. The stories were greenlighted to compete among more than (1700) worldwide submitted articles, and Mr. Al-Yaqoubi was among only 8 Arab journalists who made it to the finals out of the total number of participants and finalists.

Mr. Al-Yaqoubi has also won the Best Directing and Editing Award at The 2nd Alawda International Film Festival for his film “Survivors of Death”, which documents the occupation’s targeting of Alwehda Street in 2021’s aggression on Gaza.

Furthermore, journalist Mr. Hamza Radwan, a graduate from Journalism and Media Department, along with director Mr. Hussein Zaqout and photographer Mr. Islam Mansour, have won the first place award for their film “Witness to the Truth”, in Short Films category at Alawda International Film Festival, which recently announced the winners of its awards.

Additionally, the graduate journalist Ms. Sherin Khalifa, from Nawa News Network, has won Press House Award for Media Freedom in “Journalistic Story” category, in which she narrated the story of “Ayman – the Tunisian “, a young man who discovered that his roots goes back to Gaza.

Moreover, the IUG graduate journalist Mr. Muhammad Muhaisen, photographer of Safa Agency, has won the second place in Mobile Films category at The 2nd Alawda International Film Festival for his film titled “The Witness” which tells his testimony to the “Israeli” aggression on the Gaza Strip in May 2021.
