Department of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Faculty of Arts at Islamic University of Gaza (IUG), has signed an international cooperation agreement with the Chinese global company (SuperMap) for GIS, the second largest global company in the field of GIS software and technologt and the first in Asia.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Ms. Evelyn – the regional director of the company, and a number of international experts in the company via (Zoom) technology, and in the presence of Dr. Khaled Al-Hallaq – Dean of External Relations, Dr. Hisham Madi – Deputy Dean of External Relations, Dr. Osama Hammad – Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and Dr. Musheerr Amer – Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Engineer Amani Al-Maqadma – Head of External Relations Department, and Engineer Wissam Al-Ashkar – the company’s representative in Palestine and a faculty member in GIS Department.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Islamic University by Dr. Al-Hallaq, and on behalf of SuperMap by Mr. Sen Liping – Head of International Business in the company.
Dr. Al-Hallak drew attention to the importance of this partnership, noting the aspiration of the Islamic University to maximize the benefit for students and graduates and enhance their abilities using modern technologies.
This agreement aims to promote full cooperation between the company and the Islamic University, and to provide it with the latest global GIS software and technology in its laboratories to support technical projects for bachelor’s and master’s students in the field of GIS, in addition to providing technical training for the faculty members and students on the latest topics and updates of GIS technology in various vital subjects such as: Big spatial data, artificial intelligence in GIS software, spatial data analysis and processing techniques, which will be positively reflected on the development of these technologies in Palestinian institutions and municipalities and reach the optimum use through international experts in this field.
Moreover, the cooperation agreement seeks to strengthen and support students’ opportunities for academic exchange between the company and the university to showcase projects at international conferences and refine GIS skills.
