For the First Time, Islamic University of Gaza in Times World University Rankings “THE Impact Ranking 2022”

Islamic University of Gaza (IUG), for the first time, joined The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022 regarding the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals “THE Impact Ranking 2022”. According to the ranking, IUG was ranked third in Palestine, and first in the Gaza Strip.

Universities are classified based on the extent to which universities are committed to achieving the (17) Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations in 2015. The entry of universities to this classification requires participation in at least four Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The seventeenth goal is selected as a mandatory goal, after that (3) goals are selected.

It should be noted that it is the first participation of the university in this ranking, which comes after the university announcement of an initiative, through the Deanship of Quality and Development, that adopts the achievement of sustainable development goals, and the launch of a website for this initiative. There have been unremitting efforts by the various components of the university to link teaching, scientific research, and community service with these goals, in addition to efforts to spread the culture of sustainable development goals among employees and students.

The university participated in this ranking in goal (4) of good education, goal (10) of reducing inequalities aspects, goal (17) of establishing partnerships to achieve goals, and goal (3) of good health and well-being.

The Times Higher Education Impact Ranking is the only one that rates universities according to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and uses carefully-developed indicators to provide a comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas: research, supervision, outreach, and education. This is the fourth edition in a row, involving universities from (106) countries, and overseen by the Times Higher Education (THE).

Prof. Dr. Nasser Farhat, President of Islamic University of Gaza, congratulated the university family on this new achievement, which is added to the sum of valuable achievements previously achieved by the university at the level of international rankings. Prof. Farhat stressed that this ranking enhances the university’s position and presence in international academic forums, confirms its keenness to pursue the path of excellence and improve its services. He hoped that this achievement would increase the outcome of its contributions to the service of sustainable development.

Prof. Dr. Abdelraouf Elmanama, Dean of Quality and Development at the university, underlined that the university’s entry into the new rankings comes through the efforts of all its employees, including academicians and administrators. He commended the efforts exerted by the staff of Quality and Development and External Relations working on improving the university ranking.
