Three memorandums of understanding were signed between Faculty of Engineering in Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) and the Municipality of Al-Bureij in the Gaza Strip. The memorandums were about designing open sites in the municipality park and the railway campus in Al-Bureij, planning and designing a housing project, and organizing student competition on designing the entrance of Al-Bureij front area.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Khalil Al-Astal, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, as the first party, and Eng. Ayman Al-Dweik, Mayor of Al-Bureij Municipality, as the second party. The signing ceremony was attended by a group of employees from the Faculty of Engineering and Al-Bureij Municipality.
Designing Open Sites
The agreement terms of designing open sites in the municipality park and the railway campus in Al-Bureij stipulates that the students of Architecture Department, who will be selected by the Faculty of Engineering, will carry out studies and architectural plans necessary for planning and designing the proposed project, and then evaluating the submitted projects by the end of May 2022. The Municipality of Al-Bureij will honor the students participating in the planning and designing of the proposed project in a ceremony held at the municipality.
In accordance with the conditions stipulated between the two parties, the municipality park will be rehabilitated by developing creative and inexpensive ideas that include providing appropriate spaces and night lighting, taking into account that the implementation will go in phases.
With regard to the railway campus, it was agreed to adhere to the detailed plan of the railway campus in terms of streets location, providing green spaces and a walkway, and suggesting some spaces and attractive elements.

Housing Project
With regard to the agreement of planning and designing a housing project, the two parties agreed that the Faculty of Engineering to present the proposed project to Architecture Department in accordance with scientific and realistic vision, through an urban planning course (2), to prepare the necessary studies and plans for the proposed project, and the projects will be evaluated and delivered no later than the end of May 2022, and Al-Bureij Municipality will honor the students participating in the planning and designing of the proposed project in a ceremony held in the municipality.
Al-Bureij Front Area Entrance
As for organizing a student competition to design the entrance of Al-Bureij Front area, the Faculty of Engineering will launch an architectural competition to design a square in the aforementioned area. The municipality is responsible for honoring the winners in the first three ranks of students with financial prizes of 200 (two hundred) US dollars for the first winner, (One hundred) US dollars for the second, and 50 (fifty) US dollars for the third. The designs will be evaluated and the winning projects will be delivered no later than the end of May 2022 according to what the two parties agree upon.
The competition aims to obtain an integrated work to rehabilitate the main entrance and highlight the role of the university in serving the community and benefiting from the students’ efforts in realistic and executable projects.
