Geography Department, Faculty of Arts at Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) held a study day entitled: “Modern geography using GIS and remote sensing for school students”, in the presence of Dr. Kamel Abu Daher – Head of Geography Department, Dr. Fawzi Al-Jadba – Deputy Head of the department, Prof. Dr. Raed Salha – a faculty member in the department, a group of academicians and supervisors in the department, and teachers and students of Al-Jalil Secondary School, Bashir Al-Rayes School, and Ahmed Shawky School.
Dr. Al-Jadba said that Geography Department focuses on graduating distinguished and qualified students to meet the constantly diverse needs of society due to the scientific advancement in the world. He pointed out that the Islamic University contributes to the development of society and building generations through cooperation with educational institutions and civil society institutions.
Prof. Dr. Salha spoke about the establishment of Geography Department indicating that it contributes to the development of the Palestinian manpower in the field of geography by providing high and distinguished education to students, and gaining them knowledge, understanding and thinking skills. He explained that the department provided the community with a large number of distinguished graduates, with a high degree of experience and competence, and professionally qualified in the field of modern geography.
Prof. Dr. Salha pointed out that modern and continuous scientific advancement requires new courses with enlightened thoughts, and so that the department, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, conducted courses on GIS for school students as there is a subject in the eleventh grade book on GIS.
