Faculty of Health Sciences, in cooperation with Quality and Development Deanship at Islamic University of Gaza (IUG), held a scientific meeting on service learning, in the presence of members of the faculty, administrative staff, and the faculty students.
Prof. Abdelraouf Elmanama, Dean of Quality and Development, indicated that IUG is one of the pioneering educational institutions in the field of service learning, and has worked to link university learning with community service, as it is one of the new practices that need to integrate efforts in order to spread it as a culture in the university community.
Prof. Elmanama explained that service learning enhances for the university student the principle of citizenship and critical contemplative thinking, in addition to the multiple soft skills that the student acquires and develops through it, which is reflected on the student’s personality and expands his perceptions and various abilities, including increasing self-confidence, enhancing and developing public speaking skills.
He stressed the need to activate this type of service learning, and the need to apply it in a number of courses, and called on students to take advantage of the university life period in developing soft skills, which will be reflected in their personality after their graduation from university and their involvement in the labor market.
Dr. Mohammed Kraizem, Head of Physiotherapy Department, stressed the facultye’s keenness to hold scientific meetings and extracurricular activities within the policy of the faculty included in the operational plan, which targets faculty members and faculty students with regard to modern strategies in teaching and learning processes. This important meeting came to achieve that purpose on service learning and its great benefits for students.
