Department of History and Archaeology, Faculty of Arts at Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) held a scientific day on Jerusalem reality and Palestinian steadfastness.
Dr. Nasser Marouf, the chairman of the Scientific Committee, Ms. Rehab Shebir ,head of the Women Section of Center for Jerusalem Studies, a guest of the Scientific Day, and Dr.Nawwaf Al-Takrouri, the chairman of the Palestine Scholars’ association. In addition, a number of researchers and interested persons, Scientific Day participants, members of the administrative and academic bodies, and college students attended the Scientific Day.
The Opening Session
Dr. Osama Hammad, Vice-Dean of Faculty of Arts, said in the opening session: ” Faculty of Arts keeps pace with all programs in order to provide better courses and study plans for the future, as well as keeping pace with intellectual and cultural developments that serve Palestinian society, in particular with regard to the ongoing events they are going through”
Dr. Ahmed Abu Halabiah, Chairman of the Scientific Day, spoke about Jerusalem and its prominent place among Muslims, considering the historical events that took place there, and the virtues that has been stipulated in Islam. In addition, it comprises many of holy and historical religious monuments of the revealed religions.
Sheikh Ekrama Sabri pointed out in a recorded speech that Jerusalem needs all Palestinian, Arab and Islamic efforts to protect Jerusalem and defend it during its ongoing struggle, and to provide financial and moral support to residents of Jerusalem and their steadfastness in order to preserve the city, its stature, facilities and institutions.
Dr. Ghassan Wishah, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee, pointed out that Jerusalem has an Arabic an Islamic origin, identity and civilization because Arabs and Muslims have established its foundations and structures, which are part of the Islamic faith.
In a recorded speech, Dr. Aisha Alkhadr, President of the Arab Union for Culture AUFC, noted that the priorities of the union are to revive the city of Jerusalem by constantly introducing the city and its heritage as well as reviewing its archaeologies and its Arabic and Islamic history for Arab and Islamic communities.
Scientific Sessions
The Scientific Day was held throughout two sessions, the first session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Akram Odwan, titled with “The Reality of Judaization and Settlement in Jerusalem”, in which Mr. Osama Saad addressed the apartheid in the city of Jerusalem, while Dr. Adalat Al-Sheikh discussed excavations in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque. Moreover, Ms. Manal Alanqar hinted at the settlement in Jerusalem.
The second session was chaired by Prof. Zakaria Al-Sinwar, titled with: “The Nation’s Position of Jerusalem”, where Dr. Hanan Alhaj Ahmed reviewed the role of educational institutions in enhancing the standing of Jerusalem. Then Dr. Zakaria Adwan discussed the reality and duty of the nation towards Jerusalem.
