English Department participates in interactive meeting with International Peace College South Africa

English Department, Faculty of Arts at Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) participated in an interactive meeting with a number of lecturers and students from International Peace College South Africa (IPSA), as part of the activities of the Israeli Apartheid Week, held annually in South Africa.

Using electronic communication tools, the meeting was attended by Dr. Mosheer Amer, Head of English Department at IUG, a number of students at the department, Dr. Afdal Taleb, President of IPSA, and a crowd of students and lecturers at the college.

The audience discussed racial discrimination against Palestinian people practiced by the Israeli occupation in aspects of education, the blockade, natural resources, attacks on sacraments, and other issues.

During the meeting, interventions by students on both sides highlighted educational, economic, and living realities that Palestinian people are suffering from.

 Dr. Amer thanked the President of IPSA and the audience for their efforts to raise awareness of Palestinian people rights of freedom, self-determination, and ending occupation and racial discrimination. He stressed the depth of ties linking the Palestinian people with the people of South Africa, explaining that the state of discrimination and Apartheid Palestinian people are going through resemble the suffering of the people of South Africa during the Apartheid regime. He commended the support given by the State of South Africa to the Palestinian people at all levels.

Dr. Taleb stated that the support for the Palestinian cause came from the fact that it is a human rights issue as Palestinian people were subjected to violations of their fundamental human rights. He expressed his hope that such activities would continue to increase awareness and cooperation between IUG and IPSA..
