Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies Deanship at Islamic University of Gaza in cooperation with Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and Accreditation and Quality Authority of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research held a workshop entitled: “Development of international publishing and academic writing skills for researchers at Palestinian universities in the Gaza Strip”. The workshop was attended by Prof. Yousef Aljaish, Dean of Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Dawas Dawas, Secretary-General of Palestinian National Committee for Education, Culture and Science and Chairman of Executive Board of ISESCO, Dr. Muammar Ishtewi, Head of Accreditation and Quality Authority, and a group of researchers at Palestinian universities in the Gaza Strip.
Prof. Aljaish thanked the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and ISESCO for their generous efforts in sponsoring and organizing the workshop. He noted that the workshop comes to serve the audience of researchers at Palestinian universities and raises their skills and experience in publishing and academic writing, to develop working fields at Palestinian universities.
Dr. Dawas underlined the importance of working towards strengthening international publishing and academic writing skills and continuing work to promote the culture of excellence among researchers and scientific research professionals at Palestinian universities.
Dr. Ishtewi pointed out that the Accreditation and Quality Authority attached great importance to promoting the international publishing of Palestinian university staff for its vital role in enhancing the classification of Palestinian universities and upgrading their performance within the standards of quality and academic excellence.
In the first part of the workshop, Mr. Bilal Abu Ras from Scientific Research Deanship addressed the most significant international database “Scopus and Web of Science,” and reviewed the indexes and concepts associated with databases, how researchers could continuously improve the indexes of scientific research at personal level, and how this would enhance the position of Palestinian universities. He noted a range of scientific and technical tools that serve scientific researchers in international publishing.
Dr. Bassam Tayeh, Vice Dean of Scientific Research Deanship, addressed a range of skills associated with international publishing and academic writing skills, and discussed practical models of how to write a scientific paper, from choosing the title of the study to the results and writing the first draft of the paper.
