Islamic University of Gaza has won becoming a partner in a research project entitled “An EME-Focused Investigation into Barriers Facing Female Engineers in English Learning Environments”, funded by the British Council, in partnership with Northumbria University Newcastle in the UK.
The project is expected to be launched in March 2022, and its activities will be carried out in a period of 18 months ends by June 2023. The project team includes Prof. Sanaa Abu Daqqa, Dr. Hatem Alaydi, and Eng. Amani Almaqadma from IUG, and their counterpart researchers from Northumbria University Newcastle in the UK.
The project primarily aims at benefiting female engineers in both universities by using educational methodologies to create a safe space for fruitful exchange of experience, overcoming barriers to career advancement, combining and employing skills and techniques to function at a global scale. The project will provide an opportunity for all involved parties to participate and deliver their ideas to each other, to local people and to global communities.
The research project contributes directly to the achievement of Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals, which stipulates achieving gender equality and women empowerment. The project also focuses on cross-cutting barriers and obstacles that limit female employment or career advancement in engineering.
This project is the second to be undertaken in partnership with Northumbria University Newcastle in the UK, in the context of strengthening female engineers in Palestine and addressing the critical issues affecting employment opportunities and their soft skills in labor market.
