Islamic University of Gaza has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture within the framework of strengthening joint cooperation, aiming at developing the agricultural sector and harnessing possible resources for the capacity building of the staff working in this sector.
The memorandum was signed by Prof. Nasser Farhat, IUG President, Dr. Ayman Alyazouri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture. The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture.
According to the memorandum articles, the two parties agreed on writing and marketing developmental projects in order to open a window for donations that benefit both sides. This is in addition to exchange expertise and advisory services in the areas of agro-environmental development to improve water and soil sector, and to promote cooperation in capacity building of the ministry staff through postgraduate studies and specialized Professional Diploma programs offered by IUG, as well as directing scientific research to agriculture sector issues and provide possible facilities for achieving that.
The parties also agreed on developing and implementing community-based cultural and awareness-raising programs on issues related to the agricultural sector in the Gaza Strip provinces to serve all segments of society, besides making mutual use of laboratories, research centers, facilities and specialized units as needed, as well as providing training services and privileges, and carrying out scientific activities related to the specific objectives of both parties by leaning on service learning through implementing study courses on the institutions of the parties.
The two parties shall provide their possible human and material resources in order to enhance their respective efforts in developing agricultural areas such as fish farming, biological control, etc., in accordance with the procedures established by the Ministry of Agriculture. The parties shall exchange experiences in research on agricultural issues through the exchange of information and data.
