The Cultural Committee of Arabic Language Department at the Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with Science and Culture Centre, Arabic Language Club and Councils of Male and Female Students at the Islamic University held a ceremony to award the winners of Poetry and Short Story contests.
Prof. Naim Baroud, the Faculty Dean, demonstrated that poets and writers represent a blazon adorning the Faculty of Arts and the university, because the path of literature leads to a promising and distinctive future. He added that the Arabic Language Department has a bright and creative staff contributing to the training and refining the skills of writers and poets.
Dr. Khader Abu Jahjouh, Vice-Head of Arabic Language Department, stated that powerful nations have always cared about writers and intellectuals elite, and all institutions in the Gaza Strip have created suitable environment for them, as they realize that nations are built through poetry, prose, theatre and other different sciences.
Prof. Kamal Ghonaim, Chairman of Cultural Committee, pointed out that contests have a role to play in cultural promotion and in the significant development of talents, hinting that winning or losing is not the end of the road, but continuity, which is a prerequisite for the creator to successfully deliver their message. He added that poetry and storytelling are tools for the battle of awareness and liberation, which in turn does not contrast with the lofty values and principles for which they were established.
The ceremony was marked by the announcement of the winners of Poetry and Short Story contests, and honoring the arbitrators and participants.
