A delegation from the Faculty of Arts, Journalism & Media Department, and Public Relations Department at IUG visited a number of media institutions operating in the Gaza Strip. These visits aimed at strengthening joint cooperation for the benefit of all parties and developing media system in the Gaza Strip by increasing the numbers of qualified graduates for the development of media sector.
The delegation included: Prof. Naem Baroud, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Osama Hammad, Vice Dean, Prof. Amin Wafi, Head of Journalism & Media Department, Dr. Ahmed Alturk and Dr. Wael Elmanama, Faculty Members at Journalism & Media Department, and Mr. Muneer Abu Ras, Head of Media Division in Public Relations Department.
The university delegation visited a range of media institutions: Al Jazeera, Palestinian Press Agency (Safa), Palestine Newspaper, Alresala Foundation, the Center of Political and Development Studies, and Shihab News Agency.
During the meetings, the methods for strengthening the relationship between IUG and those media institutions were discussed. The delegation also underlined the need for those institutions to highlight innovative and creative projects executed by the university’s faculty members and students in various fields including: Health, engineering, technology, etc.
Emphasis was also placed on the need of those institutions to accommodate more university students in media-related disciplines and to grant them the opportunity for practical training. The involved parties agreed to hold more specialized workshops and scientific meetings in order to strengthen media disciplines with the latest media developments, both local and international, in order to capture, educate and train students on the latest methods of media work.
The visits were widely welcomed by the managers and officials of those media institutions, commending the role of the Islamic University in serving the various sectors of Palestinian society.
The delegation thanked those institutions for their significant role in serving the Palestinian cause in general and in particular for their active contribution to stimulating the educational process in Palestine.
