IUG and Ministry of Local Government sign a Memorandum of Understanding

IUG has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ministry of Local Government and the Federation of Municipalities of the Gaza Strip. The memorandum aims at strengthening ways of mutual cooperation and harnessing available resources to serve the community, strive to develop its common interests, and preserve its resources.

The ceremony of signing the memorandum took place at the Ministry of Local Government. Prof. Naser Farhat, IUG President, represented IUG party, while Eng. Samir Mutair, Undersecretary of the Ministry, represented the Ministry for Local Government, and Dr. Yahya Alsarraj, Mayor of the Federation of Municipalities of the Gaza Strip, represented the federation.

Based on the memorandum articles, the parties agreed on strengthening cooperation in several areas, including: preparing and marketing developmental projects for the benefit of the involved parties, and assisting one another in opening channels with donors, depending on one’s experience in the field. This is in addition to sharing experiences and advisory services in all areas of concern through direct communication among specialists under the umbrella of this memorandum. They also agreed on strengthening cooperation in developing staff capacities at the Ministry of Local Government through IUG study programs offered in postgraduate studies and specialized professional diploma, as well as directing scientific research on issues related to local government. Moreover, the parties agreed on developing and implementing community-based cultural and awareness programs on issues of local government and municipalities in the governorates of the Gaza Strip for all different groups of society, as well as mutual benefiting from  laboratories, facilities and specialized units as needed, and providing training services and all possible privileges to all parties.

Besides that, the parties agreed to provide their human and material resources to enhance their respective efforts in the development of local government and municipalities, as well as to exchange experiences in research areas of local government and municipalities, through exchanging information and data, and to cooperate with each other in their respective community efforts, especially in the different areas needed by the ministry, particularly in areas of local government and municipalities affairs.
