The team of Palestinian Research and Library Platform (PALIB) at IUG conducted a workshop for effective transferring of expertise from European universities regarding e-services of libraries and their managing systems.
This workshop comes in a series of many that organized by the Palestinian partners in Capacity Building Project for librarians, academicians, and researchers in the Palestinian universities.
The workshop was conducted at IUG in participation of representatives of Palestinian partners in the project as well as researchers and faculty members of partnering Palestinian universities.
Dr. Hatem Alaydi, the project manager at IUG, presented the concept of the project, its significance for Palestine, its aims, outcomes, and its implemented activities. He clarified the benefits of adopting such project at the national level in terms of bettering the global ranking of Palestinian universities, reaching international exposure of the Palestinian research content, and linking libraries of Palestinian universities to help students and researchers.
On the first day of the workshop, the project team illustrated a group of topics related to library automation and relevant programs such as: “relevant expertise on used technology in library automation”, “programing solutions for digital libraries (example of European expertise)”,” e-services at IUG library, and digital library networks (case study: Italy and Spain)”.
On the second day of the workshop, the following topics were presented:
“International orientation in digital libraries”, “open access publication”, “concepts of digital preservation”, and “nomenclature, identifiers, and continuity in digital libraries”.
The workshop briefed in a panel discussion to trade opinions and experiences as well as providing recommendations about library automation and systems including the necessity of developing the digital libraries sector at Palestinian universities, and exposing the Palestinian research content internationally.
Palestinian Research and Library Platform (PALIB) is one of Erasmus Plus funded projects that includes four Palestinian partners: University College of Applied Sciences (project coordinator), Islamic University of Gaza, An-Najah National University, and Palestine Polytechnic University. The project also includes three European universities from Italy and Spain.
