IUG Team Wins 2021 Debate Tournament of Gaza Universities

IUG team has made its way through the Debate Tournament of Gaza universities for year 2021. The team won the debate and was ranked first after a crushing competition with Alaqsa University team in the final round. The debate tournament program for this year 2021 is organized by Filastiniyat Organization with a participation of (8) universities in Gaza, which are: Islamic University, Alazhar University, Alaqsa University, Alisraa University, Palestine University, University College of Applied Sciences, Alquds Open University, and Palestine Technical College.

The IUG team was represented by (8) students, 5 males and 3 females, including the student Mohammed Hammad, who concluded the team efforts by winning the title of “The Best Debater” in the tournament.

In the final round, the two teams debated on a saying titled “This council sees that the absence of deterrent laws exacerbates cases of violence against Palestinian women “. In this regard, IUG team supported the saying, while Alaqsa team opposed it.

Prof. Naser Farhat, IUG President, congratulated the winning team, and expressed the university pride of such success. He added that the university constantly encourages its students to take part in effective contests and scientific activities that alleviate their abilities and spotlight their scientific and cultural levels.

Prof. Farhat commended the university tendency towards developing the capabilities of its staff and students and conveying the modern age requirements. He appreciated the efforts of Filastiniyat Organization in organizing such competitions and programs that highlight and improve students’ abilities in the Palestinian universities.

Dr. Amin Wafi, Head of Journalism and Media Department at IUG, dedicated this wining to Palestine in general and IUG management in particular for embracing such young talents, and motivating them to participate in extracurricular activities held at national and international levels.

Dr. Wafi expressed his admiration of the extraordinary level presented by the students of the tournament, and appreciated the efforts exerted by their trainers as well as Filastiniyat Organization. He hoped for more accomplishments yet to come for both Journalism students and IUG.
