Prof. Dr. Nasser Ismail Farhat – President of the Islamic University of Gaza, welcomed a delegation from the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports headed by Mr. Abd ElSalam Haniyeh – Assistant Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, as part of the celebration on the Palestinian Sports Day inaugurating a multi-purpose stadium in the Islamic University, within the framework of the agreement signed recently in this regard.
The welcoming ceremony was attended by Professor Ahmed Muhaisen – Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Khaled Al Hallaq – Dean of External Relations, Dr. Mosheer Amer – Director of the Public Relations Department, Dr. Saeed Al-Namrouti – the former Director of the Public Relations Department and Conference Center, and members of the University Council and the Engineering Office.
Prof. Farahat pointed out that the celebration came to harvest the fruits of the recently signed agreement regarding financing a multi-purpose stadium on the ground of the Islamic University, and wished that the opening would be the first continuous cooperation between the university and the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
Professor Farhat thanked the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports headed by Mr. Abd
ElSalam Haniyeh, and praised the efforts of everyone who followed and contributed to founding this sports project. “We have a lot of sports projects that we hope will become a reality for college students and kids,” said he.
Prof. Dr. Farhat emphasized that the Islamic University is an incubator for sports activities and athlete youth, expressing his hope to support institutions of higher education in that aspect, including Islamic university, the largest in the sector in terms of student numbers.
Mr. Haniyeh said: “We express our happiness and pride as a sports family that we belong to this great ancient university with its men and leaders throughout history,” explaining that the university was one of the addresses of the Palestinian people in all forums and sites, and added: “The sports family had a share in the Islamic University. Through the graduation of the stars of our various Palestinian sports teams at all levels. “
Mr. Haniyeh continued, “We are very happy with this university and with this edifice, and we are grateful to the university for giving us the opportunity to put a simple fingerprint in this lofty edifice that we are proud of.” He explained that the insistence on opening the stadium on that day because it marked the sixth day of April, the celebration of the Palestinian Sports Day, and to confirm that sport and science are one of the faces of excellence for the Palestinian people, and they are also a people’s message to the world.
Mr. Haniyeh wished from the university administration to give the council an opportunity to invest in the university’s beach stadium in preparing specific sports projects, such as: volleyball, beach basketball, indicating that rearranging that stadium would be an opportunity to start in the official tournaments as a whole.
At the end of the official welcoming ceremony, Prof. Dr. Farhat, Mr. Haniyeh, and a number of representatives of the university and the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports opened the multi-purpose university stadium, which comes within the third phase of the sports infrastructure projects implemented by the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
