New Diploma in Anesthesia and Intensive Care is a step to save the medical sector from more moralities.
Funded by Qatar Red Crescent, the school of Medicine at Islamic University of Gaza have recently inaugurated a diploma in Anesthesia and Intensive Care targeting 20 physicians who were selected by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
According to Prof. Fadil Naiem, Dean of School of Medicine; 80 doctors have graduated over the past years from this diploma and this year is the fifth in row. The diploma is included in the project of developing the capabilities of health teams and supporting specialized surgery. It has been implemented with the view of strengthening the anesthesia and intensive care services in health institutions in the Gaza Strip.
The Diploma in Anesthesia and Intensive Care prolongs for one year. It provides a goal-directed learning program in a wide range of aspects of Anesthesia and intensive care for medical graduates whose practice may involve the area of these subjects.
The diploma will produce graduates able of carrying out anesthetic practice and intensive care in a safe manner to the patients and the community. In addition, they will offer Anesthesia to routine cases without immediate supervision and for most of the emergency cases. The trained physicians will gain experience in managing patients in intensive care unit. They will, furthermore, do basic and advanced cardiac life support correctly. Not only that, they will obtain experience in acute pain management. Assess complicated cases as well as routine cases and call for help when needed will be their duties in the unit. Having a good attitude towards patients, colleagues, senior staff and nurse staff additionally to acquire communication skills are another critical goal of this diploma.
Physicians showed great attention of this diploma, saying that it is critical for medical students to learn such topics by practice.
