On the 4th of Aug, 2020, the official Erasmus+ office has announced the Islamic University- Gaza a winner of three capacity building-projects in the field of Higher Education funded by the European commission through Erasmus+ program.
In the three projects, Islamic University is a coordinator of the project “Paving the road for a network organizing collaborative research assets management (ROAD)” and a partner in the two following projects: “Empowering Teachers for Inclusive Education in Palestine- TeachIn” and “Competence Center for Smart Grid Applications and Technologies- sGAT”. These projects have generated international partnership with eight European universities, five local universities, Electronic Information for Libraries, the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education as well as, both the Federation of Information Systems Companies and the Ramallah Municipality.
36 months are the time for implementing these projects from now on. Throughout this duration, the partners will work on building and strengthening the capacity of participating higher education institutions through developing the academic and research system.
The Islamic University has already been partner and coordinator of 11 capacity-building projects under the Erasmus Plus program. The number of fully funded projects within this program during the period 2015-2020 is 14 projects in partnership with 40 European and local universities.
“Paving the road for a network organizing collaborative research assets management (ROAD)” aims at establishing a national network to organize the research asset management so that researchers can get access as well participate in the research assets under the supervision of the Higher Education Ministry’s staff. This project is happened in partnership Vienna Technical University, Bielefeld University-Germany- and The University of Minhi- Portugal. Local partnership is with Birzeit University, Jerusalem University- Abu Dis, the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education and the Electronic Information foundation for Libraries (EIFL). The project is proposed by Dr. Rawia Awadallah, Leader of Project; and Dr. Iyad Al-Agha.
“Empowering Teachers for Inclusive Education in Palestine- TeachIn” project aims to prepare and qualify educational experts who are specialized in inclusive education in Palestinian universities to teach students with hearing, visual and learning disabilities. This big goal will be carried out under supervision and full coordination of the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education through the preparation of a joint master’s program in the field of deaf education. The project is proposed by Dr. Nazmi AL-Masri, Dr. Munawar Nijm, Dr. Hazem Shehada, and Eng. Noor Al-Kolak; and in partnership with Humboldt University in Berlin and University of Vienna in Austria.
” Competence Center for Smart Grid Applications and Technologies- sGAT”. The aim of this project is to transfer technical knowledge and operational expertise in the field of smart grid (SG) from European Commission experts to Palestinian professors. This would lead to building cooperation and partnership between the academic community and the energy sector in Palestine. This project happens in partnership with the University of Malaga in Spain, the Institute of Advanced Industrial Technologies in France, the University of Maltaby in Turkey, the University of Independence and the Federation of Palestinian Information Systems Companies – Beta and the Ramallah Municipality- and by coordination of Birzeit University. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Ati, Dr. Wisam Ashour and Dr. Ammar Abuhadros proposed for this project.
