IUG Delegation took part in the final conference of the “National Dialogue Among Universities and Civil Society Institutions in Palestine” Project on Monday 9th of December, 2019.
Vice-President for Administrative Affairs Prof. Ahmed Muhaisen, Vice-Dean of Foreign Affairs Prof. Hisham Madi, Professor of Political Science Prof. Walid Al-Mudallal alongside Ms. Nahala Al Assi, IUG Foreign Affairs, have participated in the conference via video conference.
This project has been funded by the Swiss Peace Institute, under the implementation of PalThink For Strategic Studies; and in participation with the Islamic University, Al-Azhar University and the Ibrahim Abu Laghad Institute for International Studies at Birzeit, as well as, civil society organizations.
The conference included three sessions.
The first and second sessions dealt with the repercussions of the division on the student’s movement. Both of the two sessions included papers and films prepared by IUG students in partnership with other several university students. Student Ezzedine Quata and student Lina Ashour from Islamic University have delivered their participation based on the training they received by international experts in dialogue skills and conflict management through the year along.
The third session shed the lights on the implications of the division on the educational and academic process in universities, which were displayed through papers prepared by Prof. Al-Mudallal. The papers addressed the IUG professors’ perception about the Palestinian reconciliation and end of division.
The participation of Al-Azhar and Birzeit was delivered by Prof. Abed Rabbo al-Anzi, Professor of Political Science and Dean of Student Affairs and Prof. Lourdes Habash, Professor of Political Science, respectively. Their participation was entitled “The Role and trends of Academics in the Three Universities in Ending Division and Fulfilling Palestinian Reconciliation.”
Recommendation
The participants recommended the following: Developing an academic course specialized in managing dialogue and conflict resolution, disseminate the idea of the program as possible, and working on elections for student council federations in all universities.
