Prof. Abdelraouf Elmanama, Professor of Microbiology, has received a certificate of fellowship in responsible research and ethics.”
The fellowship program occupies a high leading position in the Arab world. It aims at introducing the ethics of scientific research and promoting the environment that supports scientific research. It helps for Regional capacity-building of public health research and for high-quality clinical trials set out by the highest standards of research integrity, involving researchers and academics from various Arab countries.
The fellowship program consists of a total of 16 units over the course of a year, supervised by the University of California in the United States of America and the University of Science and Technology of Jordan, and funded by the National Health Institute of the United States of America.
This program contains several subjects: The history of ethics in scientific research, the ethics of epidemiology and public health, and the history of responsibility for scientific research, in addition to a detailed explanation of the ethics of medical genetics and clinical trials, gene therapy and drug use, animal-study ethics, the role of scientific research ethics committees, informed consent, conflicts of interest, and ethical challenges in scientific publication.
It is worth mentioning that Prof. Elmanama has received many fellowships in this field, and he was recently chosen as an ambassador of the American Society for Microbiology in Palestine.
